About this place
Opened in 1952, the National Museum in Jos holds one of the most important archaeological collections in West Africa, led by the Nok terracotta heads that gave a name to a civilisation flourishing more than two thousand years ago. The adjoining Museum of Traditional Nigerian Architecture presents full-scale reconstructions of buildings from across the country, from Kano's city walls to a Hausa palace and a Tiv compound, set in the museum's gardens.
