About this place

Construction of the Kano city walls began in the eleventh century and continued for centuries, enclosing the old city with earthen ramparts and gates. Sections survive alongside the Emir's Palace, the Great Mosque and Kurmi Market. The site is on Nigeria's UNESCO tentative list.
