About this place

The Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Seven Sorrows was completed in 1906 and is built entirely of mud bricks plastered with mud mortar. The Ghana Museums and Monuments Board records the building as 60 metres long and 14 metres wide, with a bell tower 13 metres high, and describes it as the last of its kind in Ghana, combining European church architecture with Sahelian earthen building. It appears on Ghana's UNESCO World Heritage tentative list and remains an active place of worship.
