About this place
Historical accounts date the modern festival to 1934, when it marked a visit by the Sultan of Sokoto to the Emir of Argungu and was read as a gesture of peace between the two historically opposed states. The festival has lapsed and been revived several times since, most notably after a long suspension resumed in recent years.
